”I couldn't have quite imagined the warmth of the instructors and the fellow campers. It was amazing how friendly and helpful everyone was. I worried that I wouldn't be experienced or knowledgeable enough. At no time during the week did I EVER feel out of place.”

”I really felt that I was in the presence of some of the best birding people in the country, if not the world. How wonderful!”

”The beauty of the island, the inspiration imparted by the staff and guest speakers, and the knowledge shared by the instructors is a life-changing event! I can only hope that the opportunity to experience what I did will never be lost.” happy birders

”The staff was amazing. Friendly, helpful, funny, supportive. You have set the bar very, very high for all future camps, and trips with other people. ”

”Your program, staff, environs and heritage are an absolute TREASURE. Memories of the "Joy of Birding" week will live contentedly in my heart for a very long time. Thank you for caring about our wonderful world and it's future.”

”I have been teaching for 25 years and have never experience a more well rounded and useful program than that offered to educators on Hog Island. It is nothing short of out of this world. The scope, variety and depth of material we learned was extensive, exciting and so much fun. The people were top notch and the food will make you sorry you have to go home!”

“This  past week was so wonderful.  I feel revitalized and ready to jump back into my up coming youth camps with new ideas.  Thanks so much for your part in making this  such a great experience.”

”Absolutely everything was EXCELLENT. I LOVED the variety - authors, illustrators, photographer, birders, sea life, insects, great understanding of educators needs for ideas and materials. I learned sooooo much. It was beyond incredible. Words can not express what a most excellent experience the week was. EVERTHING was fantastic! Really inspired me.”

”It was one of the best weeks of my life. I really enjoyed the program, the staff and instructors, my new "birding buddies" and of course the food! ”

”Interaction with the staff was exceptional. They all answered questions I'm sure they've heard dozens of times as if they were the most important questions ever asked!”

Letter from 2010 Teen camper:

Hi all,

I just want to say that I can highly recommend this camp to everyone, especially to teens. I was fortunate enough to attend last year and really, really enjoyed it. What makes Hog Island great, besides the awesome experiences with birds (my teen group had the incredible opportunity to spend a day on Eastern Egg Rock with nesting Roseate and Arctic Terns, Black Guillemots and, of course, Atlantic Puffins), is the opportunity to bird with, talk with, and learn from really knowledgeable instructors and powerful speakers. It's not simply an "eat, sleep and bird" kind of camp, but one that also focuses on really learning about and appreciating the birds, their ecosystems, and the conservation concerns they face. Nothing matches spending time on a small island with warblers, Winter Wrens, and dozens of others who feel the same way about birds and nature that you do. It's a really inspirational week.

Plus, the food is incredible.

Just my two cents--definitely sign up and go if you can! My session last summer was filled to capacity, and I know those who were wait-listed, so sign up soon to make sure you get a spot.

If you want a taste of what it was like, feel free to read about my experiences and see some photos: http://wp.me/pxRb4-kZ.
